Day 6, at 55 miles, was one of the shortest days of the trip (route here). It was also the last day with any significant elevation change. Most of the climbing was right at the start to get out of Ithaca, so after that I was looking forward to an easy day. Sure enough, it was pretty easy and pretty uneventful.
Day 5 was simultaneously the worst day weather-wise (it rained essentially the whole day) and one of the better days route- and scenery-wise. It was also the longest day of the trip at about 90 miles. The route is here.
Day 4 was pretty much exclusively the Pine Creek Rail Trail (plus about 5 miles at the end on roads to get to the private campground I stayed at). For whatever reason I didn’t end up taking that many pictures, even though the trial was quite pretty. I think I might slightly prefer the GAP trail between Pittsburgh and Cumberland by virtue of it also being a nice rail trail and there being more facilities (bathrooms, water) along the trail, but I’m glad I biked the Pine Creek Trail.
I was looking forward to day 3 because after an initial climb there was lots of down-hill followed by fairly flat roads. Also, it was only 58 miles (route can be seen here). I was hoping for a less strenuous day, and my hopes were fulfilled. It did turn out to be the hottest day of the trip and I was mostly on wide roads without any shade, but nothing’s perfect. Since it was a short day mileage-wise I was able to take longer breaks as needed.
